But despite all the advice we receive telling us that we fall behind men in the workplace because we don’t ask for raises, because we don’t network, because we don’t promote ourselves, studies have shown that women actually do all of these things, as much as or more than men. The explanation for the gender gap is both simpler and much more difficult to comprehend: gender bias.
